Back to Basic: the ground before the figure

The idea is in the name. You are not here to copy eight counts: you are here to work the bounce, the weight of the body, your relationship to time. That is what makes a routine look danced rather than executed.

Two hours, once a month. That is what it takes to warm up properly, repeat, and end up dancing.

Who teaches it

Selasi Dogbatse: ballet at 4, hip-hop at 12, Los Angeles at 20. She has danced for Rihanna, Beyoncé, Missy Elliott, Cardi B and Drake. Her show A Piece of Me played at Bozar.

She teaches all levels in the same class, which is not a shortcut: beginners pick the level up by watching, and everyone else has nowhere to hide.

Practical

Clean trainers, kept for indoors. Water. Clothes you can crouch in. The room is 276 m² with a wall of mirrors — there is space to travel.
